Early phenolics, such as Bakelite, employed the use of wood flour to reduce cost and improve resin processing. Recent R&D has evidenced that the high mechanical properties of certain nonwood fibers, e.g., flax, true hemp and kenaf, may translate into enhanced physical properties in thermoplastic and thermoset products, while being cost effective and efficient. Danforth has been intimately involved in the R&D that has been undertaken and has worked with manufacturers and research facilities in the development of commercial applications. Danforth can provide the fibers and by-products, from natural length to finely ground and pelletized, as well as support services and technology necessary to bring your project to fruition. |
